The HHRM (Small) position exists to ensure the delivery of the company HR strategy and regional operational objectives in the hospital environment. The position reports to the Hospital Manager Benjamin Deyzel.

The HHRM (Small) will perform a generalist human resources role with the support of the Regional HR Manager. This will include providing sound people management, working with and through Line Managers, resource planning, policy and legislative compliance, communication, developing sound relationships, change management implementation and day to day HR duties.Critical Outputs

Resourcing and Talent Management 

  • Partner with Line Managers to ensure effective recruitment and sound processes 
  • Assist Line Management to formulate the hospital resourcing needs and implement strategies to attract, retain and develop employees (includes transformation, flexible staffing). 
  • Assist and support effective training, development, talent and succession processes. 
  • Coach, guide and assist managers and supervisors on HR / people management. 
  • Implement monthly induction and on-boarding of employees. 

 Employee Engagement and Enablement

  • With Hospital leadership support effective employee engagement and enablement in the hospital to enhance the company EVP (including survey actions, reward & recognition). 
  • Ensure employee productivity in the business through good communications, performance management and absence management. 
  • Ensure that the employee wellness programme is made available to all employees, usage is promoted and partner with EHS to address any issues 
  • Analyse poor performance and absenteeism trends, understand issues and develop solutions. 

Training and Development 

  • Assist with planning and organizing relevant training and induction of all newly appointed employees. 
  • Arrange training in line with the Hospital needs and make necessary arrangements, such as, sending out invitations, reminders to the staff. 
  • Assist in the compilation of the Workplace Skills Plan and the annual training report. Achieve all agreed targets 

HR Projects

  • With the line, effectively drive and implement HR, Functional and Business projects. 
  • With the support of the Regional HR Manager, apply effective change management principles for all major projects. 
  • With guidance from the Regional HR Manager and with Manco input, implement Hospital initiatives, such as, the retention of key skills. 
  • Assist with HR related projects on an ad hoc basis as required, including regular audits. 
  • Analysing trends, metrics, understand issues and develop solutions. 


  • Providing effective guidance through influencing and the promotion of diversity. 
  • With the line, ensure effective Employment Equity/BBEEE planning, execution and legal compliance (including target setting and achievement).

HR Best Practices, Compliance and Risk Mitigation

  • Partnering with Line Managers to ensure best practices, policy and process compliance and HR risks mitigation. 
  • Support Employee Services by ensuring good administration, accuracy, quality and achievement of deadlines (Kronos and payroll submission deadlines). 
  • Ensure good working relationships with FPA and the Employee Services team at HO 

HR Administration

  • Ensure that an appropriate filing system to ensure accurate records of all reports and other documents is maintained 
  • Conduct regular audits on employee files to ensure that all paperwork is in the files as per the company audit requirements. 
  • Ensure that all human resources related queries (from internal and external) are handled politely and professionally. This may be via telephone or in writing 

 Effective Employee Relations

  • Ensuring engagement and communication structures are effectively managed with and through Line Managers e.g., departmental meetings, consultative forum. 
  • Provide HR support and risk mitigation advice to Manco, Line Managers and employees. 
  • With the support of the Regional HR Manager, effectively work with and through Line Managers on day to day industrial relations, including, but not limited to, assisting with investigating IR matters, drafting charges, grievances and disciplinary hearings. With the support of the Regional HR Manager, represent the company at the CCMA. 
  • Analysing trends, metrics, understand issues and develop solutions. 

HR value proposition in the Hospital

  • Working with the Regional HR Manager, ensure the Hospital HR plan is aligned to the HR company strategy and regional operational objectives. 
  • HR visibility and sound partnering with Line Managers in the hospital. 
  • Ensure HR best practices (including an effective Line Manager delivery model and effective change management) is applied. 


  • A minimum of an NQF level 7 Degree in Human Resources Management or equivalent and relevant HR qualification. 
  • Minimum of 2 years HR generalist experience. 
  • Knowledge of HR practices and an understanding of SA labour legislation. 
  • Previous experience in the private healthcare environment advantageous. 
  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office), including basic knowledge of payroll and time & attendance systems would be advantageous.
